LOCATION: Progreso Beach, Yucatan is a pretty quiet, humble fishing town. Although it is only a few hours west of Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Tulum etc, it is not like those touristy places yet and more for the quiet adventurer, who can enjoy the real Mexico. Many snow birds visit here every winter, to escape the coldest months back home. It is affordable and quaint. The local Mayan people are humble, honest and it is a safe area. In fact, Merida has been in many magazines and articles, such as this FORBES article here and HERE and a few other articles to check out below as well:
Progreso Beach, is Merida's closest beach and is just a 35 to 45 minute drive north of the city.
