Izamal, Yucatan, Mexico

Izamal, a magic city that is a 1 and a half hour drive from The Mayan Gypsy boutique art hotel, is a perfect day trip to plan during your visit. Izamal, is an important archaeological site of the Pre-Columbian Maya civilization and is known in Yucatán as the Yellow City as most of its buildings are painted yellow and the City of Hills (that actually are the remains of ancient temple pyramids).

In Izamal, (also named "Pueblo Mágico") the Maya language is still heard at least as much as Spanish and most signs are in both languages.

It is also the home of a distillery which produces mezcal from the hearts of the locally grown agave plants.
